SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 199

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the Cypress Falls Band, which was recently awarded the 
distinguished Sudler Flag of Honor by the John Philip Sousa 
Foundation; and
	WHEREAS, The John Philip Sousa Foundation is a national 
organization that recognizes high school bands of outstanding 
musical excellence; it bestows its Sudler Flag of Honor annually 
to high school bands that have exhibited the most accomplished 
level of musicianship among bands worldwide; and
	WHEREAS, Bands receiving the Sudler Flag of Honor must have 
achieved and maintained a high standard of excellence in the 
concert area for several years; the Cypress Falls Band was one of 
only two high school bands worldwide to earn the honor this year; 
to qualify for the honor, the band sent concert programs, 
recordings, documentation of solo and ensemble awards, letters 
of recommendation, and rosters of All-Region, All-Area, and 
All-State members to the selection committee; and
	WHEREAS, The exceptional accomplishments of the
Cypress Falls Band during the last several years and the 2006 
season are due to the talent and dedication of the band members 
and its directors, Frank Troyka, John Morrison, and Shawn McAnear;
and
	WHEREAS, Through determination and hard work, the band 
members and directors have brought the faculty, students, 
parents, and the community a sense of pride and superior 
achievement; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the
Cypress Falls Band on its outstanding performances and extend 
congratulations to the band on earning the 2006 Sudler Flag of 
Honor; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the band as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
