SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 202
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas recognizes
Reverend John Fife for his unselfish service to people in
migration; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Fife was one of the founders of the
sanctuary movement of the 1980s; he has accompanied and helped
people in migration for 35 years; and
WHEREAS, He has led his church, Southside Presbyterian,
in declaring the need to provide sanctuary for immigrants; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Fife remains committed to his work and
continues to aid immigrants crossing the treacherous Arizona
desert; he is a founding member of No More Deaths; and
WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion,
Reverend Fife extends a helping hand to struggling people and
is a powerful example of the tradition of humanitarianism; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend
Reverend John Fife for his commitment to charity and for his
continuing efforts in the sanctuary movement; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
