SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 208
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
honor the Birdville Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, The Birdville Historical Society, a nonprofit
organization, was founded in March of 1996 to preserve and
protect the historical significance of the greater Birdville
area; and
WHEREAS, The historical society has 120 members; the
board members of the society are Betty Porter, president;
Laura Hunter, first vice president; Bob Watkins, second vice
president; Fran Burns, secretary; and David Harper, treasurer;
and
WHEREAS, On May 20, 2006, the 10th annual reunion of the
society is being held in conjunction with the Birdville Cemetery
Association; the cemetery's oldest known burial plot dates from
1852; and
WHEREAS, The reunion, including a dinner, entertainment,
and tours, is being held on the cemetery grounds; the historical
society has met at the cemetery since its first reunion, and
there is now a beautiful gazebo to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Birdville Historical Society
are worthy of legislative recognition for their efforts to
preserve the history and heritage of the Birdville community;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize the
Birdville Historical Society for its invaluable contributions
to historical preservation in our state; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
