SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 234

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the United Longhorn Team Inspiring Mental Attitudes 
Towards Engineering (ULTIMATE) robotics team from United 
Engineering and Technology Magnet School and United High School 
for its recent success in the For Inspiration and Recognition of 
Science and Technology (FIRST) Lone Star regional competition in 
Houston; and
	WHEREAS, The FIRST program was founded in 1989 to motivate 
and prepare high school students for careers in technology; each 
year the program challenges teams from throughout the world to 
design and construct a fully functional robot in only six weeks; 
and
	WHEREAS, This year the ULTIMATE robotics team won three 
awards at the Houston regional competition, the Kleiner Perkins 
Caufield & Byers Entrepreneurship Award, the Robot Finalist 
Award, and the Chairman's Award, the most prestigious award given 
at the competition; these awards qualify the team to compete at 
the FIRST Robotics National Competition in Atlanta, Georgia; and
	WHEREAS, The ULTIMATE robotics team was formed in 2002 and 
has competed regularly in the Lone Star regional competition; 
under the direction of its sponsors and with the assistance of 
its mentors, the ULTIMATE robotics team has worked evenings and 
weekends to achieve success in the FIRST competition and other 
robotics competitions; the team is truly worthy of recognition 
for their hard work and impressive skills; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the United 
Longhorn Team Inspiring Mental Attitudes Towards Engineering 
robotics team from United Engineering and Technology Magnet 
School and United High School for its many accomplishments and 
extend to the team congratulations on its success at the
For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology
competition; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
