SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 236
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Euline Brock for her six years of outstanding service as the mayor of Denton, Texas, and her dedicated work on behalf of its citizens for over 20 years; and WHEREAS, Mayor Brock's first official service to the city began with her membership on the Planning and Zoning Commission from 1985 to 1991; she then went on to serve as an at-large member of the Denton City Council and as chair of a 50-member Blue Ribbon Citizens' Committee; she was elected mayor of Denton in 2000; and WHEREAS, Under Mayor Brock's guidance, Denton has evolved into a major city in the Denton-Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and in our state; its growth emerged as a result of Mayor Brock's involvement in regional policy-making efforts and her service as president of Metroplex Mayors; her work as president of Metroplex Mayors included promoting the development of a regional transit system and organizing the first joint meeting of the Metroplex Mayors and the Tarrant County Mayors Council; and WHEREAS, Due to her vision of Denton as the "Third City" in the region, Denton has now become a regional center for medical services, retail, banking, employment, entertainment, sports, and the arts; additions to the city include the establishment of a new central fire station and a third library, the construction of a new fresh water treatment plant, and the opening of Water Works Park; and WHEREAS, Mayor Brock has been a member of the executive board of the North Central Texas Council of Governments and has been a participant in the regionwide "Vision North Texas" process; she works actively with the regional "Keep Local Government Local" group, which addresses the Texas Legislature regarding issues important to North Texas cities; in 2005, Mayor Brock was the recipient of the William J. Pitstick Regional Cooperation Award from the North Central Texas Council of Governments for her efforts to promote transjurisdictional solutions to regional problems; and WHEREAS, Mayor Brock's distinguished public service has included coordinating the activities of city departments and fostering numerous neighborhood and citywide projects on behalf of area residents; a longtime champion of Denton's downtown, Mayor Brock initiated some substantial improvements to the downtown square, making the area a safer and more inviting place to visit; she was instrumental in the formation of Denton Tomorrow and Denton Tomorrow II, community symposiums which created a set of strategies to achieve sustained economic vitality in the city; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Mayor Euline Brock for her invaluable contributions to the City of Denton and extend to her best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
