SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 240
In Memory
of
Guy C. Brannon, Jr.
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Colonel Guy C. Brannon, Jr., who died
April 6, 2006; and
WHEREAS, He was born April 11, 1921, in Little Rock, Arkansas,
to Charles Guy and Lena Mae Browning Brannon; he married
Hattie Jo Magness in 1943; and
WHEREAS, He enjoyed a career with Western Electric before
serving in the United States Army for 27 years; he was an officer
in the Signal Corps during World War II and served in the Pacific
Theater; and
WHEREAS, He was later stationed in Japan, Korea, and
Vietnam as General Westmoreland's Communications Officer; he was
an instructor at the Advanced Officer's School at Fort Monmouth,
New Jersey, and served tours of duty at Kagnew Station, Ethiopia,
at the Army Security Agency in Arlington, Virginia, and at the
United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was
communications and electronics officer; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Brannon was awarded numerous medals for
his service to his country, including the Joint Services
Commendation Medal for his service in Vietnam and the Legion of
Merit for his work at West Point; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary citizen, he was respected in the
community for his many accomplishments and his willingness to
help those in need; he volunteered at Wilford Hall Medical Center
for 13 years; and
WHEREAS, Guy Brannon will be remembered for his dignity,
his quiet strength, and his dauntless spirit; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and his many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Guy C. Brannon: his
daughter and son-in-law, Jo Carol and Kevin Haynes; his
granddaughters, Lindsey and Paige Haynes; and his sister-in-law,
Margie Magness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Colonel Guy C. Brannon, Jr.
