SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 245
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Gib Walton, who was recently chosen as president-elect of the State Bar of Texas; and WHEREAS, A partner with Vinson & Elkins LLP, Gib has formerly served the State Bar of Texas on its board of directors and executive and finance committees; he successfully led the State Bar through Sunset Review during the 2003 session of the Texas Legislature; and WHEREAS, Gib earned a juris doctor degree in 1975 from The University of Texas School of Law, where he was a Texas Law Review editor; he has been board certified in civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1982; and WHEREAS, Gib is an elected member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Garland Walker American Inn of Court, and the International Society of Barristers; he serves on the boards of the Texas Equal Access to Justice Foundation, Methodist Hospital, and other community organizations; and WHEREAS, Gib has been honored by the State Bar of Texas with numerous awards; he has received the Presidents' Award, the Judge Sam Williams Leadership Award, and the Michael J. Crowley Award for extraordinary commitment and leadership, and he is truly worthy of recognition for his efforts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Gib Walton for dedication to the practice of law and extend congratulations to him on being chosen president-elect of the State Bar of Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
