SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 246
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Kandi Patton, whose good judgment and quick action
helped save the lives of her family; and
WHEREAS, Kandi, an 18-year-old student at Mineral Wells
High School, lived with her parents, Lisa and Russell Patton, and
her brother, Dustin, in their home in the Salesville community in
Palo Pinto County; and
WHEREAS, During the night of April 2, 2006, Kandi, who has
been blind since birth, smelled smoke and felt something hot on
her leg; and
WHEREAS, She ran hastily to her brother's room to tell him
she thought there was a fire; her brother was able to rouse their
parents, and the family escaped the burning home; and
WHEREAS, Although the home was destroyed, Kandi and her
family were unharmed because of her ability to recognize imminent
danger, to remain calm, and to react swiftly; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Kandi Patton
for her resourcefulness and heroism and extend to her best wishes
for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
