SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 253

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
honor Dustin Nelon, who has received the E9-1-1 Award after 
saving his father's life through his courageous intervention
and calm response in a life-threatening situation; and
	WHEREAS, Dustin's father, Alan Nelon, has been an
insulin-dependent diabetic since he was a teenager; although
he is only 10 years old, Dustin has learned about his father's 
condition and often reminds his father to monitor his blood 
sugar; and
	WHEREAS, When Dustin awoke on the night of September 27, 2005,
he realized his father was having a seizure; Dustin knew that his 
father's blood sugar had plummeted and that his mother, a nurse, 
was at work; and
	WHEREAS, Understanding the importance of immediate action, 
Dustin called 9-1-1 and calmly stayed on the line while he 
reassured his father and discussed his father's condition with 
the dispatcher as he waited for the ambulance to arrive; and
	WHEREAS, Dustin exhibited mature poise and a calm demeanor 
during the eight-minute telephone call he made to 9-1-1, and
this young Texan should be an inspiration to every citizen in
this state; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Dustin Nelon
for his reassuring response and good decision-making when faced 
with a critical medical emergency and applaud his quick and 
effective response to a frightening ordeal; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
