SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 254
In Memory
of
Richard P. Strickland
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Corporal Richard P. "Ricky" Strickland, who died April 7, 2006, while serving his country in Iraq; and WHEREAS, Born June 18, 1983, Ricky grew up in Fort Worth, where he was active in Cub Scouts, soccer, and football; he graduated from Western Hills High School in 2002; and WHEREAS, Ricky enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October of 2002, fulfilling a lifelong dream; he was assigned to the 3rd Platoon, "the Wolfpack," Company C, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment; he was serving his third deployment to Iraq when he gave the last full measure of devotion in service to his country; and WHEREAS, A natural leader known as "The Motivator" to his fellow Marines, Ricky was a man of courage, strength, and tenacity, and his kindness, resolute spirit, and contagious laughter will be treasured forever by those who knew him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Richard P. Strickland: his wife, Adrian Acevedo-Strickland; his children, Nickolas Price, Victoria Ann-Catalina, and Tyler Kenneth; his parents, Kenneth Strickland and Vicki Murrell-Strickland; his sisters, Nani Cruz and Kim Waller; and his brothers, United States Army Sergeant Clint Riggins and David Brewer; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Richard P. Strickland.
