SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 256

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Brother Stanley Culotta for his 50 years of visionary 
leadership in the San Antonio community as an educator, medical 
doctor, and humanitarian; and
	WHEREAS, Brother Stanley, a native of Louisiana, arrived 
at Holy Cross High School in the 1950s just after he graduated 
from the University of Notre Dame; at that time the school, which 
is now coeducational, consisted of one building with eight 
classrooms and had an enrollment of 120 boys; and
	WHEREAS, Since then, he has helped thousands of students 
graduate from Holy Cross, has successfully recruited nationally 
recognized entertainers to raise funds to keep the high school 
open, and became a medical doctor to help people unable to get 
medical assistance; and
	WHEREAS, Brother Stanley entered medical school at the age 
of 37 after becoming aware of the lack of medical resources in the 
West Side neighborhood; after a three-year residency in McAllen, 
he returned to San Antonio, developed funding support, and opened 
the Holy Cross Family Medical Center in 1981; he worked as a 
primary care physician until 1995, when he returned to teach at 
Holy Cross; and
	WHEREAS, Brother Stanley is now Holy Cross High School 
president and still teaches a mathematics class; his passion
for education includes working as the diocese's legislative 
representative for school choice; and
	WHEREAS, Through his dedication and compassion for helping 
others over the past 50 years, Brother Stanley Culotta has made 
San Antonio a better place to live, and he is truly worthy of 
legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend
Brother Stanley Culotta for his many accomplishments and honor 
him as a treasured citizen of this state; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
