LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 79TH LEGISLATURE 3rd CALLED SESSION - 2006

May 4, 2006

TO:
Honorable Geanie Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Deputy Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB154 by Luna (Relating to the administration of the Irma Rangel School of Pharmacy.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would transfer the administration of the Irma Rangel School of Pharmacy from Texas A&M – Kingsville to the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center.

The bill would permit the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents to maintain a school of pharmacy in Kleberg County as a component of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center and would repeal Section 87.303 of Education Code, which authorized the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents to maintain a school of pharmacy as part of Texas A&M University – Kingsville.

The State should not incur any significant costs from the transfer of the pharmacy school from one Texas A&M University System institution to another.

The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. Otherwise, it would take effect on September 1, 2006.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
