No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated, other than the cost of publication.

The cost to the state for publication of the resolution is $99,767.


The proposed amendment alone would have no fiscal impact on the state or units of local government. The enabling legislation associated with this proposed constitutional amendment is in House Bill 72, Acts of the 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, 2006.

 

The change in the Texas Constitution would take effect January 1, 2007, subject to adoption of the proposed amendment at the November 7, 2006 general election, but only if House Bill 1, Acts of the 79th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, 2006, is enacted and becomes law.  If H.B. 1 does not become law, this proposed constitutional amendment may not be submitted to the voters.
