	Amend CSHB 3 as follows:                                                     
	(1)  On page 35, line 9, strike "7.25" and substitute "       ". 
	(2)  On page 59, between lines 2 and 3, insert the following 
appropriately numbered ARTICLE and renumber ARTICLES of the bill 
appropriately:

ARTICLE     . EXEMPLARY DAMAGES AWARDS
	SECTION     .01. Chapter 41, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, 
is amended by adding Section 41.014 to read as follows:
	Sec. 41.014. PAYMENT OF AWARDS TO GENERAL REVENUE FUND.                 

(a) The court shall order 50 percent of an award of exemplary 
damages in an action be paid to the comptroller for deposit in the 
general revenue fund.
	(b)  The provisions of this section may not be made known to 
the jury through any means, including voir dire, introduction into 
evidence, or instruction.
	SECTION     .02.  The change in law made by this article 
applies only to a cause of action that accrues on or after the 
effective date of this Act. A cause of action that accrues before 
the effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect 
immediately before that date, and that law is continued in effect 
for that purpose.
