AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

C.S.H.B. 55 renames the portion of Interstate 20 that runs between the Tarrant-Parker County Line and the eastern municipal boundary of Grand Prairie as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway in honor of the late President Ronald Reagan.   

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, by adding Sec. 225.059, as follows:

 

Sec. 225.059.  RONALD REAGAN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY. (a) Designates the part of Interstate Highway 20 located between the Tarrant-Parker County Line and the eastern municipal boundary of Grand Prairie as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway. 

 

(b)  Requires the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to design and construct memorial markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the Ronald Regan Memorial Highway, and any other appropriate information. 

 

(c)  Requires TxDOT to erect a marker at each end of the highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway. 

 

(d)  Provides that TxDOT is required, to design, construct, and erect the markers only to the extent that money is available for this purpose from a grant or donation of private funds.

 

(e)  Provides that the funds collected under Section 225.021 (General Provisions) for the purpose of implementing this section, are required to be deposited to the credit of the state highway fund.    

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: September 1, 2005.
