AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Under current law, the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying registers professional surveyors under the Professional Land Surveying Act (Act); however, this Act does not specifically allow for a reduction in renewal fees for land surveyors over the age of 65. In comparison, the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, which registers professional engineers under the Engineering Practices Act, specifically allows for reduced renewal fees for professional engineers over the age of 65. Since many professional surveyors are also professional engineers, it would be fitting to create a similar opportunity for individuals over 65 who would like to retain their surveying license.
H.B. 207 expressly authorizes the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying to adopt, by rule, reduced certificates of registration, license fees, and annual renewal fees for land surveyors who are at least 65 years of age.
