AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

The Hazlewood Act allows for tuition and fee exemptions for certain military personnel and certain children of those personnel who served in various wars from the Spanish-American War through the Persian Gulf War.  Current law, however, does not mention service members who are now serving as a result of the War on Terror.  As engrossed, H.B. 503 updates the Hazlewood Act to include those who have served in the military as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
