BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Chapter 24 of the Government Code addresses the term limits of the 47th Judicial District.  Under this chapter the Armstrong County Grand Jury meets for six (6) month terms.

The Armstrong County Grand Jury meets infrequently during that semi-annual term.

HB 593 seeks to improve efficiency by lengthening the terms to twelve (12) months. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. 

ANALYSIS

SECTION 1:  Amends Section 24.149 (c) (1) of the Government Code to extend the Armstrong County Grand Jury term to twelve (12) months beginning on the 1st Monday in January and continue until the 1st Monday of the next January.

SECTION 2:  Effective date.
