BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
Currently, Chapter 701 of the Transportation Code limits a county to the employment of not more than five county traffic officers who are dedicated to the enforcement of highway traffic safety.
H.B. 1165 excludes counties with a population of more than two million from the officer-limit provision.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.
ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Section 701.001, Transportation Code, by adding that the limitation on the number of deputies that may be employed as county traffic officers does not apply to a county with a population of more than two million.
SECTION 2. Effective Date
EFFECTIVE DATE
Upon passage, or, if the Act does not receive the necessary vote, the Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
