                                                                                                       Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, the State of Texas allows for the issuance of specialty license plates for classic motor vehicles.  Classic motor vehicles are any vehicle that is at least 25 years old.  These license plates recognize long lasting vehicles and the people who embrace the explorer's spirit that is so unique to our state and our nation.  However, under current law, license plates may only be designated for classic autos, motorcycles, or trucks, leaving out one of the most popular of all traveling vehicles, the travel trailer.

House Bill 1244 expands the law so that travel trailers may be issued specialty license plates that read "Classic Travel Trailer" or a similar designation.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

SECTION 1: This bill amends the Transportation Code to designate travel trailers 25 years or older as "classic motor vehicles" and to allow the owners of these vehicles to be issued specialty license plates of their choosing.
