BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

 

The 15th and 59th judicial districts are comprised solely of Grayson County and the 336th judicial district is comprised of Fannin and Grayson Counties. 

 

Subchapter C, Chapter 24, Government Code provides for six month terms for district courts contained within the subchapter. Six month terms provide for more efficient court administration and docket movement in many areas.

 

The purpose of H.B. 2174 is to create uniform six month terms for the 15th, 59th and 336th District Courts.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. 

 

ANALYSIS

 

The bill amends Sections 24.116(c) and 24.161(b) of the Government Code to delete the April and October terms, leaving two terms of court beginning the first Mondays of January and July.  The bill also repeals Section 24.482(b) which contains the dates of terms of the 336th District Court.
