AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

The City of Dallas has embarked upon the multi-faceted Trinity River Corridor Project.  This massive transportation/environmental/recreational venue undertaking includes the construction of several "signature" bridges by famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava that will span the Trinity River.

 

H.B. 3041 designates a bridge over the Trinity River in Dallas County as the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.

 

The Hill family contributed to the overall quality of life in the Dallas metropolitan area through their various business and philanthropic pursuits.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, by adding Section 225.059, as follows:

 

Sec.  225.059.  MARGARET HUNT HILL BRIDGE.    (a) Designates the structure on Spur 366 located in the city of Dallas connecting the east and west levee of the Trinity River as the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.

 

(b)  Requires the Texas Department of Transportation (department) to design and construct markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, and any other appropriate information.

 

(c)  Requires the department, except as provided by Subsection (d), to erect a marker at each end of the structure.

 

(d)  Provides that the department is not required to design, construct, or erect a marker under this section unless a grant or donation of private funds is made to the department to cover the cost of the design, construction, and erection of the marker.

 

(e)  Requires money received under Subsection (d) to be deposited to the credit of the state highway fund.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date:  September 1, 2005.
