BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Currently, there are three County Court at Laws and Probate Courts in Brazoria County.  All three courts are currently backlogged.  House Bill 3489 will create fourth County Court at Law and Probate Court in Brazoria County.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. 

ANALYSIS

H.B. 3489 amends the Government Code to create a fourth County Court at Law and Probate Court in Brazoria County.  This County Court at Law is created January 1, 2007.  The initial vacancy in the office of the Judge of the court shall be filled by the general election in 2006.

EFFECTIVE DATE

September 1, 2005
