BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

 

Courts in Brazos County have continued to create backlogs. The intent of this bill is to increase the ability of magistrates to deal with the docket in Brazos County.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. 

 

ANALYSIS

 

The bill adds Brazos County to the category of counties whose district and statutory county court judges appoint magistrates. The bill also adds a number of items to the list of powers of magistrates in Brazos County.
