BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

The city of Dublin, Texas maintains sister-city status with Dublin, the Capital of Ireland.  For many years the two cities have remained in close contact, and as Dublin, Texas has grown, its Irish heritage has also grown increasingly apparent.  Founded by Irish Jews who settled in Dublin, Texas after leaving New England, these early pioneers have played an instrumental role in the Texas city's development.  The salute to their heritage is prominently displayed throughout the Texas city.  Be it in the street names, the high school colors, or the city's flag which displays a Shamrock, the culture of Ireland is never far from sight.  It would mean a great deal to the citizens of Dublin, Texas to be recognized as the Irish Capital of Texas.
