AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Current state law does not permit military officers to serve on the school boards of military reservation school districts, which is inconsistent with federal policy. 

 

S.B. 144 amends the Texas Education Code to authorize the State Board of Education to appoint military officers to the board of trustees of a military reservation school district. 

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 11.352(b), Education Code, to permit military officers to be appointed to school boards for military reservation school districts.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2005.
