AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Currently, the portion of Interstate 20 that runs through Dallas and Tarrant counties has no name other than Interstate 20.  C.S.S.B. 170 renames a section of Interstate 20 as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway in memory of the former president.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, by adding Section 225.059, as follows:

 

Sec. 225.059.  RONALD REAGAN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.  (a)  Designates the part of Interstate 20 located between the Tarrant-Parker County Line and the eastern municipal boundary of Grand Prairie as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway.

 

(b) Requires the Texas Department of Transportation (department) to design and construct memorial markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway, and any other appropriate information.

 

(c) Requires the department to erect a marker at each end of the highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date:  September 1, 2005
