AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

As proposed, S.B. 317 designates the parts of State Highways 7, 12, and 103, United States Highway 290, and Interstate 10 that follow the route of the El Camino Real de los Tejas from Pendleton as the El Camino East/West Corridor.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code, by adding Section 225.0401, as follows:

 

            Sec. 225.0401.  EL CAMINO EAST/WEST CORRIDOR.  (a)  Sets forth that the parts of           State Highways 7, 21, and 103, United States Highway 290, and Interstate Highway 10            that follow the route of the El Camino Real de los Tejas from Pendleton to El Paso are        designated as the El Camino East/West Corridor (corridor).

 

                        (b)  Requires the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), to the extent the                          El Camino East/West Commission (commission) reimburses TxDOT for costs, to:

 

                                    (1)  design and construct markers in consultation with the commission to                                        be placed along the corridor indicating the highway number, the                                                      designation as the El Camino East/West Corridor, and any other                                                             appropriate information;

 

                                    (2)  erect a marker at the end of the corridor and at appropriate                                                        intermediate sites along the corridor.

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date:  upon passage or September 1, 2005.
