AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Over the past several years, Bell County has experienced great growth and therefore is in need of a new district court to handle the additional caseload. As proposed, S.B. 353 creates a new district court for Bell County.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter C, Chapter 24, Government Code, by adding Section 24.570, as follows:
Sec. 24.570. 426th JUDICIAL DISTRICT (BELL COUNTY). (a) Provides that the 426th Judicial District is composed of Bell County.
(b) Provides that the terms of the 426th District Court begin on the first Mondays in January, April, July, and October.
(c) Provides that Section 24.129 (27th Judicial District), relating to the 27th District Court, contains provisions applicable to both that court and the 426th District Court.
SECTION 2. Amends Section 24.129(b), Government Code, to provide that the 27th, 146th, 169th, 264th, and 426th judicial districts have concurrent jurisdiction in Bell County. Makes a nonsubstantive change.
SECTION 3. Provides that the 426th Judicial District is created on the effective date of this Act.
SECTION 4. Effective date: September 1, 2005.
