AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

C.S.S.B. 518 gives uninsured Texans greater access to free or discounted drugs by placing on the State Board of Pharmacy website a link to free and reduced price drug programs offered by pharmaceutical companies.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. 

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Amends Subchapter A, Chapter 554, Occupations Code, by adding Section 554.016, as follows:

 

Sec.  554.016.  FREE AND DISCOUNTED DRUG OFFER INFORMATION. (a)  Sets forth certain requirements of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (board) relating to the provision of certain information regarding free and discounted drugs.

 

(b)  Requires the board to file a report containing certain information with the presiding officer of each house of the legislature not later than December 1 of each even-numbered year.

 

SECTION 2.  Sets forth certain notification requirements pertaining to free and discounted drug offer information posted on the board's website.

 

SECTION 3.  Effective date:  upon passage or September 1, 2005.
