AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

Under current law, the state is authorized to deposit into a trust fund a portion of the state sales and use tax revenues for certain cities to use in the preparation and presentation of the Olympic and Pan-American games, as well as "other events" such as the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, National Basketball Association All-Star game, Major League Baseball All-Star game, World Cup soccer game, and any events and activities related to or associated with those games.

 

As proposed, S.B. 657 repeals the subdivision that places an expiration date of January 1, 2007, on the provisions of  Section 5A, Chapter 1507, Acts of the 76th Legislature, Regular Session, 1999 (Article 5190.14, V.T.C.S.).

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1.  Repealer:  Section 5A(q) (expiration date of the article relating to Pan-American Games and Olympic Games), Chapter 1507, Acts of the 76th Legislature, Regular Session, 1999 (Article 5190.14, V.T.C.S.). 

 

SECTION 2.  Effective date:  September 1, 2005.
