AUTHOR'S/SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Currently, Section 42.006 (Population Requirements), Election Code, requires county election precincts to contain at least 100, but no more than 2,000 registered voters. As proposed, S.B. 1272 increases the maximum number of registered voters allowed per precinct to 4,000. This change will result in a positive fiscal note for election administration because it would decrease the number of election precincts necessary in each county, as each precinct will accommodate more voters. S.B. 1272 will also help to lighten the burden on election administrators since they will have fewer precincts to organize and monitor.
