A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to service of public school superintendents, principals, assistant principals, and other senior administrators as substitute teachers. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 11, Education Code, is amended by adding Section 11.203 to read as follows: Sec. 11.203. ADMINISTRATOR SERVICE AS SUBSTITUTE TEACHER. Each superintendent, principal, assistant principal, and other senior administrator in a school district shall serve as a substitute teacher for a class in the district for at least two days during each school year. SECTION 2. The heading to Subchapter E, Chapter 11, Education Code, is amended to read as follows:
SUBCHAPTER E. ADMINISTRATORS [SUPERINTENDENTS AND PRINCIPALS]
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2005-2006 school year. SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
