A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to participation as an annuitant under the Texas Employees
Group Benefits Act.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. PARTICIPATION OF CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS EMPLOYED
AFTER ENACTMENT OF CHAPTER 1231, ACTS OF THE 77TH LEGISLATURE,
REGULAR SESSION, 2001. Notwithstanding Section 1551.102, Insurance
Code, or any other law, an individual is eligible to participate as
an annuitant in the group benefits program under Chapter 1551,
Insurance Code, if:
(1) the individual was initially employed on or after
September 1, 2001, but before September 10, 2001, by a school
district that operates schools at facilities of the Texas
Department of Criminal Justice for the education of persons
confined or imprisoned in those facilities;
(2) the individual is continuously employed by that
school district until September 1, 2005, or a later date; and
(3) on the date the individual seeks to participate as
an annuitant, the individual would be eligible to participate as an
annuitant under former Section 3(a)(2), Texas Employees Uniform
Group Insurance Benefits Act (Article 3.50-2, Vernon's Texas
Insurance Code), as that section existed immediately before
amendment by Section 27, Chapter 1231, Acts of the 77th
Legislature, Regular Session, 2001.
SECTION 2. EXPIRATION. This Act expires December 31, 2011.
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September
1, 2005.
