A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to information contained on a driver's license or personal
identification certificate issued to a health care practitioner.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 521.001(a), Transportation Code, is
amended by adding Subdivision (5-a) to read as follows:
(5-a) "Health care practitioner" has the meaning
assigned by Section 91.001, Civil Practice and Remedies Code.
SECTION 2. Section 521.101, Transportation Code, is amended
by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
(j) On request of a health care practitioner, a personal
identification certificate issued to the practitioner must include
a statement of type of health care practitioner license the person
holds. The department shall require a person who makes a request
under this section to provide proof satisfactory to the department
of the type of health care practitioner license the person holds.
SECTION 3. Subchapter F, Chapter 521, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 521.1251 to read as follows:
Sec. 521.1251. HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONER INFORMATION.
(a) On request of a health care practitioner, a driver's license
issued to the practitioner must include a statement of the type of
health care practitioner license the person holds.
(b) The department shall require a person who makes a
request under Subsection (a) to provide proof satisfactory to the
department of the type of health care practitioner license the
person holds.
SECTION 4. Section 521.142, Transportation Code, is amended
by adding Subsection (i) to read as follows:
(i) The application must provide an opportunity for a health
care practitioner to:
(1) request that the practitioner's license include a
statement of the type of health care practitioner license the
applicant holds; and
(2) state which type of health care practitioner
license the applicant holds.
SECTION 5. This Act applies only to a driver's license or
personal identification certificate for which an original or
renewal application is submitted on or after the effective date of
this Act.
SECTION 6. This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
