A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the duration of a lien for the enforcement of child 
support arrearages.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 157.318(a), Family Code, is amended to 
read as follows:  
	(a)  A lien is effective until the earliest of:                         
		(1)  the date all current support and child support 
arrearages, including interest and any costs and reasonable 
attorney's fees, have been paid;
		(2)  the date [or] the lien is otherwise released as 
provided by this subchapter; or
		(3)  the 20th anniversary of the date the notice of lien 
is recorded.
	SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies to a 
lien for child support arrearages that is recorded by a county clerk 
before, on, or after the effective date of this Act.
	SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
