A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the maintenance of area agencies on aging that provide 
services for the aging and persons with disabilities.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 531.02481(e), Government Code, is 
amended to read as follows:
	(e)  The executive commissioner shall assure the maintenance 
of no fewer than 28 area agencies on aging that provide services for 
the aging and persons with disabilities in order to assure [the 
continuation of] a local system of access and assistance that is 
sensitive to [the] aging and disabled populations [population].  
The executive commissioner shall identify the area agencies on 
aging as the access and assistance entry points for long-term care 
services provided through the Department of Aging and Disability 
Services for those populations.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
