A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the designation of a school crossing zone or school 
crosswalk.  
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subdivisions (13) and (14), Section 541.302, 
Transportation Code, are amended to read as follows:
		(13)  "School crossing zone" means a reduced-speed zone 
designated on a street by a local authority to facilitate safe 
crossing of the street by children going to or leaving a public or 
private elementary or secondary school or a day-care center as 
defined by Section 42.002, Human Resources Code, during the time 
the reduced speed limit applies.
		(14)  "School crosswalk" means a crosswalk designated 
on a street by a local authority to facilitate safe crossing of the 
street by children going to or leaving a public or private 
elementary or secondary school or a day-care center as defined by 
Section 42.002, Human Resources Code.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
