A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the eligibility of students enrolled in courses for joint high school and college credit for extracurricular activities and University Interscholastic League competitions. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is amended by adding Section 33.087 to read as follows: Sec. 33.087. ELIGIBILITY OF STUDENTS ENROLLED IN COURSES FOR JOINT HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE CREDIT. A student otherwise eligible to participate in an extracurricular activity or a University Interscholastic League competition is not ineligible because the student is enrolled in a course offered for joint high school and college credit, regardless of the location at which the course is provided. SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2005-2006 school year. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
