A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the reimbursement of medical expenses incurred by
county jailers and detention officers exposed to certain contagious
diseases.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 607.001, Government Code, is amended to
read as follows:
Sec. 607.001. DEFINITION. In this chapter, "public safety
employee" means a peace officer, fire fighter, detention officer,
county jailer, or emergency medical services employee of this [the]
state or a political subdivision of this [the] state.
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act to Section
607.001, Government Code, apply only to an exposure to a contagious
disease that occurs on or after the effective date of this Act. An
exposure that occurs before the effective date of this Act is
governed by the law in effect at the time the exposure occurred, and
the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
