A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the designation of certain state agencies as voter registration agencies. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 20.001(a), Election Code, is amended to read as follows: (a) The following state agencies are designated as voter registration agencies: (1) Health and Human Services Commission [any agency or program that provides public assistance, including: [(A) Texas Department of Human Services (AFDC program, Medicaid program, food stamp program, programs for the aged); [(B) Texas Department of Health (special supplemental food program for women, infants, and children); and [(C) any other agency or program as determined by the secretary of state]; (2) [Texas] Department of Aging and Disability Services [Mental Health and Mental Retardation]; (3) Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services [Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired]; (4) Department of State Health Services [Texas School for the Deaf; [(5) Texas Commission for the Blind; [(6) Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; [(7) Texas Rehabilitation Commission]; and (5) [(8)] any other agency or [that provides a state-funded] program [primarily engaged in providing services to persons with disabilities,] as determined by the secretary of state that primarily provides: (A) public assistance; or (B) services to persons with disabilities. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
