A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to population requirements for certain county election
precincts.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 42.006(d), Election Code, is amended to
read as follows:
(d) In a county in which a voting system has been adopted for
use in the general election for state and county officers, the
maximum number of registered voters a precinct may contain is:
(1) 5,000 [3,000], in a county with a population of
250,000 or more;
(2) 5,500 [4,000], in a county with a population of
175,000 or more but less than 250,000; and
(3) 6,000 [5,000], in a county with a population of
less than 175,000.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
