A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the appointment of a clerk of the municipal court of 
record in the City of Longview.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subchapter N, Chapter 30, Government Code, is 
amended by adding Section 30.00535 to read as follows:
	Sec. 30.00535.  CLERK; OTHER PERSONNEL.  (a)  The city 
manager of the city shall appoint a clerk of the municipal court of 
record who may hire, direct, and remove the personnel authorized in 
the city's annual budget for the clerk's office.  The clerk shall 
perform the duties in accordance with statutes, the city charter, 
and city ordinances.
	(b)  Sections 30.00009(c) and (d) do not apply to this 
subchapter.    
	SECTION 2.  A clerk holding an appointed position on the 
effective date of this Act continues to serve until the earlier of 
the expiration of the person's term, if any, or until another person 
is appointed to that position as provided by Section 30.00535, 
Government Code, as added by this Act.
	SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
