A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the appointment and compensation of certain court
coordinators in Bexar County.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 74, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subchapter E-1 to read as follows:
SUBCHAPTER E-1. COURT COORDINATORS IN CERTAIN COUNTIES
Sec. 74.111. BEXAR COUNTY. (a) A judge of a district court
in Bexar County shall appoint a court coordinator. The court
coordinator is a sworn officer of the court.
(b) A court coordinator serves at the will of the appointing
judge.
(c) A court coordinator shall receive a salary to be
determined by the judge of the court in which the court coordinator
serves. The salary may not be less than the salary that a person
serving as a court coordinator of a district court in Bexar County
received on January 1, 2000. The salary set for a person on the
person's initial appointment as court coordinator may not exceed
the final salary of the person's predecessor in office.
(d) Except as provided by Subsection (e), an order
increasing the salary of a court coordinator:
(1) must be submitted to the commissioners court of
Bexar County not later than September 1 of each year; and
(2) may not increase the salary by more than 10 percent
of the salary received by the court coordinator unless the
commissioners court approves the order.
(e) The commissioners court may permit an order increasing
the salary of a court coordinator to be submitted after September 1.
(f) To the extent of any conflict between this section and
Subchapter E, this section controls.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
