A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the local administrative judge for the district and county courts at law of El Paso County. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 75.014, Government Code, is amended by adding Subsection (h) to read as follows: (h) Notwithstanding Sections 74.091 and 74.0911, a district judge in El Paso County or a judge of a county court at law in El Paso County serves as the local administrative judge for the district courts and the county courts at law in El Paso County. The judges of the district courts and county courts at law shall elect a judge as local administrative judge for a term of not more than two years. The local administrative judge may not be elected on the basis of rotation or seniority. SECTION 2. The offices of administrative judges in El Paso County created under Sections 74.091 and 74.0911, Government Code, are abolished on the effective date of this Act. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
