A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the report of a motor vehicle accident prepared by a law 
enforcement officer.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Sections 550.062(a) and (b), Transportation 
Code, are amended to read as follows:
	(a)  A law enforcement officer who in the regular course of 
duty investigates a motor vehicle accident shall make a written 
report of the accident if the accident resulted in injury to or the 
death of a person or damage to the property of any one person to the 
apparent extent of $2,000 [$1,000] or more.
	(b)  The report required by Subsection (a) must be filed with 
the department [not later than the 10th day after the date of the 
accident].
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives 
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as 
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this 
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this 
Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
