A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to fire regulations for certain small commercial 
structures.       
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  The heading to Chapter 791, Health and Safety 
Code, is amended to read as follows:
	CHAPTER 791.  FIRE ESCAPES AND OTHER

EMERGENCY EXITS
	SECTION 2.  Chapter 791, Health and Safety Code, is amended 
by adding Subchapter F to read as follows:
	SUBCHAPTER F.  OTHER EMERGENCY EXITS
	Sec. 791.071.  REGULATIONS REGARDING MINIMUM NUMBER OF 
EXITS.  (a)  A local governmental entity shall grant a variance or 
waiver from any fire regulation that requires a commercial 
structure or portion of a structure to have more than one exit if 
the structure or portion of the structure is 500 square feet or 
less.
	(b)  The enforcement provisions of Subchapter E do not apply 
to this section.
	SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
