A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to statewide coordination of public transportation.                  
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 461.004, Transportation Code, is amended 
by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
	(c)  In order to meet the mandates of this chapter relating 
to coordination of public transportation and to implement the 
legislative intent of §461.004, the department is directed to 
conduct an inventory of all public transportation providers in the 
state to determine the types and levels of services being provided 
by each of the providers and the extent to which those providers can 
assist the state in meeting the mandates of this chapter.  The 
department may engage the services of a university-based 
transportation research organization with a focus on transit 
mobility research and staff expertise in the analysis of rural and 
urban public transportation service delivery including 
coordination with client transportation providers to assist with or 
perform the inventory.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
