A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to state compensation for certain primary election 
expenses.       
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 173, Election Code, is 
amended by adding Section 173.012 to read as follows:
	Sec. 173.012.  STATE COMPENSATION FOR OFFICE SPACE.  (a)  
Subject to the availability of state funds, the secretary of state 
shall provide for the reimbursement of office space expenses 
incurred with respect to the administration of a primary election.
	(b)  Rules adopted under this section must provide for 
reimbursement of office space expenses in connection with the 
primary election to a political party regardless of whether the 
political party maintains regular office space or leases office 
space only in connection with the primary election.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
