A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a parent's right to provide food to school children.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. This Act may be cited as "Lauren's Law".
SECTION 2. Chapter 26, Educational Code, is amended by
inserting Section 26.013 to read as follows:
Section 26.013. RIGHT TO PROVIDE FOOD ON PARTICULAR
OCCASIONS. A school district may not prohibit a parent or
grandparent of a student from providing any food product of the
parent's or grandparent's choice to:
(1) children in the classroom of the child of the
parent or grandparent on the occasion of the child's birthday; or
(2) children at a school-designated function.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
